“Your sometimes tired eyes”
The hurt
of having
my contribution
measured
carves these lines
in my face
squeezes my
chest
and has
at times
threatened
to end me
Some of us
can never
measure up –
can never fit
We’re like
water seeping
into the earth
feeding underground
streams to arrive
eventually in
your body
We’re like starlight
traveling for years
to kiss your face
in the darkness
We’re like fir trees
silently breathing our
magic potion into the air
to heal you
Join us
Wear your
wholly unmarketable
genius in
your smile
Let your
sometimes tired
eyes see
what they
see
and let your
broken heart
know what
it knows
there’s always
someone or
something
to hold you
